On the Edge of Fluidity

On the Edge of Fluidity is a performative sculptural installation exploring material, time and decay. Unfired clay forms are submerged in pools of water, where they soften and gradually disintegrate. This loss of form becomes the unfolding action of the work.
Drawing on ancient myths of humanity’s creation from clay and research into human decomposition in water, the installation reflects on the body’s fragility and transience. As the clay returns to an amorphous state, it evokes a cycle of creation and dissolution, in which matter persists even as form disappears.
Materials: Unfired clay, water, soil, plastic ponds
