Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost is a sculptural installation made from nearly 200 kilograms of clay and polyester textile, transformed through heat. During firing, several clay elements unexpectedly exploded in the kiln. Rather than being discarded, the fragments became part of the composition, allowing destruction to shape the creative process.

Drawing on the biblical account of humanity's creation from earth, the sculpture evokes the remains of an unfamiliar anatomy. Hollow clay forms resemble vertebrae and skeletal structures, while melted polyester suggests flesh, exposed nerves and connective tissue. Precariously balanced columns rise among scattered fragments and dust, creating an ambiguous state between formation and collapse.

The work reflects on the fragility of existence, where creation and destruction become inseparable. It remains uncertain whether we are witnessing the remnants of something lost or the emergence of a new form of life.
